HUNDREDS of people from children to firefighters all joined forces at Catshill Middle School to take part in the nationwide Big Cookathon 2013.

The event last Thursday (March 7) was organised by the Children’s Food Trust.

Let’s Get Cooking is aimed at encouraging thousands of youngsters to get into the kitchen to cook a healthy meal.

A total of 531 people, including pupils and community members, joined 36,000 others from around the country when they took part in cooking a vegetable korma.

Even enthusiasts from as far afield as Zimbabwe and Canada contacted the Catshill school to get involved.

Headteacher Paul Essenhigh said: “It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to link the school and community.”

Coun Janice Boswell, Bromsgrove’s civic head, also joined in with the fun.

“It was just absolutely fantastic and the atmosphere was electric in the kitchen.

“The kids were so enthralled and excited,” she said.

Local chef Lorenzo Richards from the Wildmoor Oak pub helped the youngsters with the recipe.

He said: “It’s nice to be able to get children at a young age excited about cooking with fresh ingredients.

“It shapes their future adulthood.”
