THE TWO pubs in Bromsgrove due to go up for auction last week have both been sold and will reopen as pubs, The Standard can reveal.
We reported last month how the Redditch and Bromsgrove branch of CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) had expressed concerns about the futures of The Country Girl in Stoke Pound and The Queen's Head in Stoke Prior, which were scheduled to go under the hammer last Thursday (February 28).
But they were sold before the event at Villa Park and, although no specific details have yet been revealed, Ian Tudor, a director of CPBigwood, which organised the auction, said: “I can confirm both will re-open as pubs with dining.”
The news has been welcomed by Paul Richards, the chairman of Redditch and Bromsgrove CAMRA.
He said: "Too often do we hear news of neglected pubs that become derelict and owners have no choice but to demolish the building.
"It’s great to hear that in this instance these rural pubs do have a future and will once again be opening their doors to the local community.
"I wish the new owners the best of success and look forward to enjoying a pint there soon."
