FOUR people, including three youths, have been jailed for their parts in violent disorder in Bromsgrove last April in which a 15-year-old was stabbed.
The police were called to the incident on April 11 after reports of a large group of young people being involved in a disturbance outside the town's Love2Love nightclub, Worcester Road, at around 10.15pm.
Following that, a teenager was found near the HSBC bank in the High Street with stab wounds to his back.
Luckily his injuries were non-threatening, but he still needed treatment at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
At Birmingham Crown Court on Friday (February 15), Kemiah Wellington, 18, from Little Hill Way, Bartley Green, Birmingham, was sentenced to three years behind bars after previously admitting to violent disorder.
The other three - who were all 17 and from the West Midlands - appeared at Birmingham Crown Court yesterday (Monday) and, having also previously pleading guilty to violent disorder, were sentenced to detention and training orders - two of them for eight months and the other for four months. The trio could not be named for legal reasons.
Sgt Louise Meeson attributed the convictions down to a good working partnership between West Mercia Police and Bromsgrove District Council.
“Thanks to CCTV from the town centre we were able to identify the offenders and bring them to justice.
“Hopefully these sentences will be a warning to others contemplating violent behaviour in the town and a reminder that we will do our utmost to bring offenders before the courts.”
Bromsgrove District Councillor Margaret Sherrey, responsible for health and wellbeing services including CCTV, said: “I’m pleased that our CCTV services have once again been instrumental in ensuring lawbreakers are brought to justice.
"The effective local partnership of police and our CCTV services helps to keep Bromsgrove safe.”
