RESIDENTS, groups and businesses wanting to help Bromsgrove become a Fairtrade town are being urged to get in touch with those organising the campaign locally.
The appeal coincides with Fairtrade Fortnight, which starts on Monday (February 25), and an event on Saturday (February 23) at Bromsgrove Library.
Members from the Fairtrade Bromsgrove group will be on hand from 9am at the Stourbridge Road venue with an exhibition about the movement and information on where people can buy Fairtrade products locally.
Art Lavelle, the chairman of the Fairtrade Bromsgrove steering group committee, said: "We would like to hear from any other business or schools, churches or community groups who are willing to give support.
"It costs nothing and is simple to support – just use some Fairtrade products on a regular basis during breaks or, where appropriate, offer customers Fairtrade tea or coffee when they are waiting."
He also praised staff at the town's ExtraCare store for being the first town centre charity shop to support Bromsgrove's bid to gain Fairtrade status. During breaks, the ExtraCare staff have Fairtrade drinks.
ExtraCare deputy manager Betty Corrall said: “We are very keen to support such an excellent campaign in Bromsgrove."
For more on Fairtrade Bromsgrove, which has the backing of Bromsgrove District Council and town MP Sajid Javid, MP, call Art Lavelle on 07859 353554 or e-mail artlavelle@bluebottle.com.
