SIXTEEN pets had to be rescued from a house in Bromsgrove after it caught fire on Tuesday evening (February 26).

The five rabbits and 11 dogs were taken from the house in Broad Street, Sidemoor, at 4.45pm.

Two crews from Bromsgrove and another from Redditch attended and firefighters put out the fire which came from the back of the kitchen on the ground floor. Ventilation equipment was also used to clear the smoke from the property.

The people living there were accounted for and safe.

A resident who witnessed the incident said several RSPCA vans also attended the scene to take away the rescued animals.

An RSPCA spokeswoman confirmed the incident was been investigated.
