PEOPLE of all ages and abilities will be able to take part in a variety of sports, thanks to a Bromsgrove organisation and a £2,900 grant from Worcestershire County Council.
Amber Support Services, based in Broad Street, held a number of activities last Friday (February 15) at the Ryland Centre, including specially adapted versions of football, hockey and Boccia, which is similar to bowls.
The Amber Active project began last summer when, inspired by London 2012, a local version of the Paralympics for people with learning disabilities was held.
And next month, from March 22, thanks to the funding, regular stretch and sports sessions will be held at Ryland Centre every Friday from 11am to 12.15pm.
As well as the regular sports, there will also be taster sessions in other pursuits, such as rowing, fencing and rock-climbing.
Amber’s senior support worker and sports co-ordinator, Gary Ives, said: “The ones who have taken part have loved every minute.
“They really enjoyed it and wanted to do the activities on a more regular basis.”
The £2,900 has helped pay for equipment for the sports sessions, which are open to anyone and everyone.
“We have had a great response so far and we are hoping to welcome a few new faces when the sessions get underway next month,” added Gary.
Amber Support Services director Jacqui De Sousa said: “We want to say a big thank you to Worcestershire County Council for their support, which has enabled us to provide these activities for everyone in our local community, reagardless of ability.”
Anyone wanting to find out more can call Gary on 07500 090098.
