Warning after spate of thefts from cars across Bromsgrove

CAR OWNERS across Bromsgrove district are being warned to be on their guard after a spate of thefts from vehicles.

The incidents took place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (February 10 to 13).

There have been more than ten raids in total, with Audis and Volkswagens being specifically targeted. Police believe the same people are involved in all of the crimes, which have seen a host of property taken, including sat navs, stereos, a toolbox, CDs and other items. They have occurred in Catshill, Harwood Park, Aston Fields, Stoke Prior and the on The Oakalls.

One of them took place just before 11pm on Monday (February 11). In that one, two men wearing grey hoodies took a stereo from an Audi in Royal Worcester Crescent, before fleeing in a Ford Focus. That car, later found abandoned in Enfield Close, had been stolen from Rubery.

Sgt Louise Meeson said: “The thieves are mainly targeting ‘top end’ cars such as Audis and Volkswagens, probably because they think there will be more of value to steal.

"There is nothing sophisticated about the manner of the thefts, they are simply smashing windows to get inside although some of the vehicles are believed to have been left insecure."

She added that footprints in the snow had also showed there were thieves operating in the areas who had been walking from car to car, trying door handles.

Following the incidents, patrols are being increased in the area in a bid to catch the culprits and reassure residents.

Sgt Meeson urged any witnesses or anyone with any information on the thefts or suspicious activity to call her on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

And police have urged car owners to ensure all their doors and boots are locked, alarms are set and that no valuable items are left on display.

In the case of sat navs, motorists are advised to remove cradles and suction marks as they may entice opportunist thieves to break-in.
