SANTIAGO Sting won a thrilling clash with Continental Star to win the Christmas Cracker Futsal Tournament which took place at the International Futsal Arena just before Christmas.
Sting, who are sponsored by Chiquito's, entered the contest with Niall Doherty covering as keeper in the absence of a recognised stopper whilst Patrick Doherty, Tom Broomhall, Sonny Swann, Reece Homer, Theo Fields and Lucas Percy completed the squad.
Sting dominated the early stages and deservedly went 4-0 ahead inside ten minutes following some excellent unselfish play which is fast becoming a trademark of the team.
In a bid to stop the rot, Continental Star adopted a highly physical approach which saw several unsavoury and heavy challenges which progressed to nasty off-the-ball incidents.
Although this signalled the game being brought to order by the referee, this physical approach had allowed them to get back into the game and as a result the game was finely poised at 6-6 going into the closing stages.
Both defences were now tiring so it was no surprise there were several near-misses at this stage, but just when it looked as though the game was heading for penalties, Niall found Lucas who turned and volleyed home a winner into the top corner.
The other goals went to Sonny (2), Theo (2), Reece and Player of the Tournament Patrick.
