BROMSGROVE RFC head coach Ross Baxter was left to rue the concession of two late tries that cost his side victory when they entertained Otley on Saturday.
The National Two North high-flyers drew level in the final minute of the contest, missing a conversion to win the game, and Baxter admitted to being disappointed with the way the game finished.
“It was tough to take because we put a lot into the game and probably did not get as much out of the first half as we should have - in terms of turning pressure into points.
“However, we started really well and got a good cushion and it was important that we got the next score. But, unfortunately, we then spent the next 20 minutes playing in our own half - we withstood a lot of pressure and never really got back into our method of attacking.
“That said, it looked like we were going to close the game out and we were ahead with a couple of minutes to go. It was just a case of keeping the ball, but we just got a bit too frantic and tried to play a bit too much and spurned the opportunity through an error.”
Baxter admitted to being pleased with what he saw from his side for long periods but went on to say that it is important they see the job through having done so much of the hard work.
“We played so well defensively on our own line, so to cough up a soft try like the one we did at the end is hard to take, but that is the way it goes. They should never have had the ball in their own 22 as we had the ball at that moment in time and coughed it up with a knock on.
“Again, it is just our own little errors that are costing us points.
“But there was a lot of effort put in and we played well in patches, defended well, but we just need a little more composure in the right moments.”
