AS THE snow began to fall again on Sunday morning, Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club’s junior cross country competitors headed to Nuneaton to take part in the fourth competition of the season in the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League.

Despite being faced with the snow already on the ground and the forecast for more, many competitors braved the conditions in the hope of winning much-needed points for the club.

The results were as follows: U11 girls - Anna Nicod 30th, Flora Skinner 88th, Buffy Pinnegar 101st, Ellie Green 108th; U13 girls - Megan Nicod 22nd, Livvy Worth 30th, Amy Mijovic-Couldwell 33rd, Eva James 82nd; U15 girls - Ruth Gameson 32nd; U17 girls - Orianna Ball 15th; U11 boys - Felix Gill 11th, Josh Keyte 62nd; U13 boys - Will Moss 46th, Nicholas Jones 47th; U15 boys - Ben O’Connor 38th; U17 boys - James Downing 27th.

THE MIDLANDS Counties Athletics Association held its first open meeting of the year on January 12/13 at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham and B&R athletes produced some excellent performances, ranging from the most junior competitor to the seniors.

Candy Lockett started the new year with three first places which stands her in good stead for an impressive second year competing in the U15 age category.

Results: Candy Lockett (U15) - shot putt 1st (8.19m), discus 1st (23.59m), hammer 1st (26.28m); Jessica Bennett (U15) - 60m hurdles (race 2) 2nd (10.49s), 60m (race 4) 3rd (8.49s); Izzy Billau (U20) - triple jump 3rd (10.49m), javelin 3rd (26.33m); David Mould (senior men) - 60m (race 5) 1st (7.41s); Richard O’Connor (senior men) - hammer 1st (32.53); Yasmine Al-Daftary (senior women) - 60m (race 2) 4th (9.96s).
