'Take care' drivers urged after catalogue of crashes across Bromsgrove

DRIVERS are being warned to take care after a catalogue of crashes across Bromsgrove district this morning (Friday).

A car towing a catering unit on the A448 near Dodford crashed into a road bridge over a stream and a second car lost control, left the road and went into the stream below.

Fire crews from Bromsgrove and Kidderminster attended, along with the police and ambulance service, and two people in the first car and one in the second were treated at the scene. One was then taken to hospital.

The trailer was lifted up by firefighters who used airbags and a winch, before making the vehicles safe.

The A448 Kidderminster Road between Bromsgrove and Kidderminster was closed as a result and the fire crews contacted engineers to inspect the road bridge and check if any structural work was needed.

Group Commander Mick Cadman from HWFRS said it was a miracle no one was seriously hurt.

“This had the potential to be a very serious incident, and those involved are lucky to have come away with what we understand to be relatively minor injuries.”

Police received calls from several other drivers at around 7.30am about the Alcester Road in Burcot, which the motorists described as being like a sheet of ice. Several cars slid off the road and there was a crash there at around 8.55am involving three vehicles. Luckily no one was injured in the incident.

Also at 7.30am, the police received reports from a white Transit van driver who said his vehicle had collided with a milk wagon on the A38.

There was a crash at 7.30am on the A448 between Finstall and Tardebigge and a section of that road was also closed after another collision at around 8.45am. That one involved three vehicles - a VW Polo, a VW Golf and a Renault Clio.
