LANTERNS will be released into the air at 8pm tomorrow (Friday) at different points around the world in memory of brave toddler Charlie Harris-Beard.
And one of the areas for the Charlie Harris-Beard - Let’s Light Up The Sky! event will be the Lickey Hills.
Rubery resident Karen Farnell has organised this area’s event, which will be held by the castle at Monument Lane.
She said unfortunately Birmingham City Council did not authorise the setting off of lanterns so residents would be doing it at their own risk.
“Everyone is welcome - please invite all your friends who have followed Charlie on his journey to fight leukaemia.
“Let’s light up the sky for Charlie and show that Charlie’s army are still carrying on his memory.”
Two-year-old Charlie lost his fight against Leukaemia last Friday (February 8) and a special public event to celebrate his life is due to be held for him at St Mary’s Church, Kidderminster, today (Thursday), before the private service at the crematorium.
A Save Baby Charlie Harris-Beard website detailing Charlie’s fight - www.charlieharrisbeard.com - was created, along with a Facebook page and a Twitter account. The use of the Thunderclap website by the youngster’s family led to more than 2million people becoming aware of Charlie’s fight and a petition to increase awareness and availability of umbilical cord donation, has reached more than 20,000 signatures.
Organisers of the e-petition are vying to get 100,000 signatures by next year.
