A MAN has been left extremely shaken after a car he was driving, which was specially modified to help his disabled wife, was stolen from him in Hagley at around 7.30pm on January 25.
The incident happened when the man, who was in his 40s and from Brierley Hill, was driving along the A491 in the Vauxhall Zafira, which had the registration number BN60 KZG.
As he approached the roundabout near Hagley Police Station, a driver in the car behind him flashed his lights and waved his arms as if to beckon him to pull over.
The Zafira driver, thinking it was a police officer, continued on the A491, but pulled over at the first layby, where he got out to speak to the driver who was behind him, leaving the engine running.
He realised it was not the police, but was told the back wheel of the Vauxhall Zafira on the passenger side was wobbling.
As he bent down to take a closer look, he heard the door shut and saw both his car and the other one drive off towards Bromsgrove.
The other car was a dark car and the driver was a light-skinned black man. The victim did not see anyone else in the other car.
The man's wife, who the car is for, is disabled and suffers from a number of conditions, including epilepsy, arthritis and back problems which mean she is unable to walk far.
PC Alan Poole, of West Mercia Police, said the man was shocked by what had happened.
"As she is not insured to drive her husband's car, this theft has affected them quite badly.
"The Zafira had come through Lye to Hagley and we would like to hear from anyone who saw it being followed, or being driven off along the A491 that evening, or indeed anyone who knows where it is now."
Apart from the mobility moderations, the car did not have any other special adaptations.
Anyone with any information should call PC Poole at Hagley Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
