JON Rogers grabbed a second half brace to help Bromsgrove Sporting get back to winning ways at Castle Vale JKS on Saturday.

With two recent defeats against Lichfield still fresh in their minds, Sporting were keen to get back on the front foot and they did so with three points against the league's basement boys.

The Rouslers, who entertain Littleton on Saturday and travel to Pershore Town on Boxing Day, made a cautious start to proceedings and with the hosts doing nothing more than matching them, few chances were created in the opening exchanges.

Sporting were seeing plenty of the ball and in James Turk had someone showing great determination to inject some momentum into the game but on too many occasions the final ball into the box was not of a good enough standard to provide the strike duo of Chris Morrison and Andy Nicol with any clear chances.

On the few occasions they went forward, the hosts looked a threat with Joe Obi putting a good chance over the bar whilst Callum Blake also went close on a couple of occasions.

Sporting were no less organised in defence with Nick Martin and Matt Ross mopping up most moves before the home side could get within sight of goal and if they did, Tom Savage's safe hands did the rest.

The visitors stepped up a gear as the second half began and looked determined to put more pressure on the home defence.

Better service to the strikers allowed Nicol to try his luck but keeper Ian Kimberley saved although he was powerless to prevent the deadlock being broken in the 61st minute.

Nicol turned provider as his fine pass from midfield set Rogers clear and free of the off-side trap and he went round the keeper before scoring with an angled strike.

The hosts upped the tempo in a bid to draw level but Sporting's back four dealt with everything they could throw at them.

Morrison missed a golden opportunity to double the lead when glancing his header wide with an empty net in front of him after Aaron Roberts hooked the ball into the middle.

Nick Harris blocked an Obi effort on the line as the hosts gave it one last go but deep into stoppage time Rogers finally settled Sporting's nerves when connecting well with Lee Dunkley's free kick and giving Kimberley no chance.

THE Reserves extended their winning run with a 5-1 victory over Castle Vale Reserves at the Victoria Ground.

Jovan Blake-Walker and Dan Wilkes both scored twice whilst the scoring was completed with a goalmouth scramble. Wilkes' second goal was a particular highlight of the afternoon, dribbling almost the length of the field before beating the keeper.

SPORTING have seen Mike Thurbon and Karl Fellows depart this week, joining West Midlands Police and Blackwood respectively, Adam Humphries and Daniel Mroczkowski have however, arrived at the Victoria Ground.
