BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club ace Helen Russell is celebrating after being nominated for a top triathlon industry award.
For the second year running Russell, from Bromsgrove, has been shortlisted in the Female Duathlete of the Year category in the national triathlon awards organised by 220 Triathlon magazine - the UK’s leading triathlon magazine.
Russell has been shortlisted along with two other duathletes, following a nationwide vote run by the magazine at the end of 2012.
The nomination recognises Russell’s continued success in international duathlon competitions.
Last season she won gold in the European Sprint Duathlon Championships, which added to her World Championship title.
The UK’s best triathletes, including Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee, will gather to hear the results at an awards ceremony at Sandown Park in March.
To celebrate being shortlisted for the second consecutive year, the Bromsgrove Living Well Health Club has agreed to continue to sponsor Russell for the coming season.
Richard Portman, Living Well manager at Bromsgrove, commented: “As part of our corporate social responsibility we are delighted to be working alongside Helen, to help her further her athletic career as well as using her achievements to inspire our members to stay active.
“The events that she competes in require a fitness programme that involves utilising various sports equipment, all of which we have available for her within our sports facilities.”
Russell said: “It is a real honour to be shortlisted again for such a prestigious award and for Living Well Bromsgrove to recognise the achievement with their support is a brilliant way to start my 2013 season.”
