Hi: 10° Lo:4° 7 day

CARING Bromsgrove residents are being invited to make a splash and become a volunteer lock keeper.
The Canal and River Trust (CRT), the new charity which cares for 2,000 miles of waterways in England and Wales, is asking residents to maintain one of the oldest traditions on the canals.
Lock keepers have become a fixture on the canals and the role of the modern day lock keeper is to provide a friendly welcome to waterway visitors, assisting boaters through locks and helping to maintain the lock area.
There are 50 locations across the country where lock keepers are needed, including Stoke Prior in Bromsgrove.
Actor and adventurer Brian Blessed supported the first appeal during 2012 which saw over 250 people come forward and become volunteer lock keepers.
Trust bosses hope volunteers will lend their support to the town’s canal and help support the trust.
Visit www.canalrivertrust.org.uk/volunteer, e-mail volunteer@canalrivertrust.org.uk or call 0303 040 4040 for more information.
