BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has joined his colleagues at Westminster in standing up to prejudice by signing a special Book of Commitment in the run up to Holocaust Memorial Day on Sunday (January 27).
The day marks the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the Nazi concentration and extermination camp which is the site of the largest mass murder in history
The Book of Commitment was placed in the House of Commons by the Holocaust Educational Trust to give members of Parliament the opportunity to honour those who were persecuted died in the Holocaust.
Mr Javid said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity to remember the victims of the Holocaust and subsequent genocides.
“I encourage all constituents to mark the day and to join members of community in the fight against prejudice and intolerance.”
A number of commemorative events will be taking place up and down the country, including Bromsgrove’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day, which is being held in Sanders Park at 11.30am today (Friday).
The special service, on the theme Communities Together – Build a Bridge, will be held by Bromsgrove District Council’s Civic Head, Coun Janice Boswell, at the park’s Holocaust Memorial plaque.
