More snow to hit Bromsgrove tonight

THE MET Office has issued a weather warning as snow is expected to hit the county once again this afternoon and overnight.

Occasional flurries of snow and sleet are expected this afternoon, which may then turn heavier overnight from around 10pm.

Between 2 to 4cm is possible with a risk of up to around 7cm possible on higher ground. Latest Met Office forecasts suggest the snow risk should fizzle out on Thursday with a cold but dry day expected on Friday.

Worcestershire County Council's gritting teams are on the county's roads from 2pm today (Tuesday) to cover all designated routes.

Once they have been gritted, snow ploughs fitted to vehicles will help clear away accumulated snow and slush to give drivers the best possible conditions for Wednesday morning.

Jon Fraser, County Council Highways Customer and Community Manager, said: "More snow is forecast for overnight, and with residual slush and water freezing and there is still a strong risk of ice, so although gritters and snow ploughs are still treating designated routes, drivers are urged to take care on the road.

"Please remember to slow down and leave extra space between yourself and the vehicle in front to allow for extra stopping time in icy conditions." he added.

The latest information on schools closures, along with any disruption to public transport and services, will be available on the County Council's website www.worcestershire.gov.uk

The County Council's Twitter account, www.twitter.com/worcscc, will also provide updates on school closures and disruption caused by the bad weather.
