Fairfield glide to victory at Glades

FAIRFIELD Villa secured their second Midland Combination Division One victory against FC Glades in the space of seven days on Saturday when recording a 4-0 away victory.

The victory made it nine in a row in all competitions for a Villa side who are in incredible form having scored 34 goals and conceded just five during their superb run.

Their charge up the table has seen them move clear at the top, one point ahead of second placed Cadbury Athletic, ahead of tough home games against third placed Hampton tomorrow (2pm) and fourth placed Archdale 73 on Boxing Day (11.30am).

“Confidence is certainly high given the run we are on and the players have got themselves into a frame of mind when they don’t expect to lose,” Oakes said.

“That is going to be severely tested in our next few games though when we are going to face some really tough sides but we are doing extremely well at the moment and hopefully that can continue.”

The first half ended goalless at Glades on Saturday before Villa took full control in the second half.

Stuart Hall opened the scoring from a free kick two minutes in and substitute Pete Jenvey went close to extending the advantage when hitting the upright after good work from Adam Pillinger.

Villa were soon celebrating a second goal though when impressive new signing Nigel Adams crossed for Hall to nod home before Steve McGlen fed Keiron Evans to add a third.

Substitute Craig Cosgrove completed the scoring after more good work from Jenvey to leave Oakes more than satisfied with his side’s display.

“The pitch made life very difficult to be honest and played a part in the game remaining 0-0 at half time,” he said.

“But once we got in front we were in total control and could have scored a few more.

“I would have been disappointed if the pitch cost us the chance to come away with the three points but we managed to get the result we wanted which is great to keep the run going.

“It would be nice to be sitting top of the table on Christmas Day but we have a hard game against Hampton to get through first if that is to remain the case.

“They have already beaten us on two occasions this season when they have been the better side but we’ve got a fair few new faces in from then so hopefully we’ll produce an improved display.”

DROITWICH Spa’s Division One trip to Northfield Town was postponed on Saturday.

Their Christmas programme begins with a home game against Coton Green tomorrow (2pm) before they head to Cadbury Athletic on Boxing Day (11.30am).
