NETWORK Rail has reiterated its commitment to improving the lines to Bromsgrove and Redditch with its latest announcement of works to be carried out across the West Midlands.

The £65million programme will see the line electrified between Barnt Green and Bromsgrove and a new section of line created between Alvechurch and Redditch. There will also be a second platform at Alvechurch and a new footbridge created at the station.

The work will complement the new Bromsgrove Railway Station and see three trains per hour run between Redditch, Bromsgrove and Birmingham New Street.

The works, scheduled for between 2014 and 2019, are part of more than £550million worth of planned investment by Network Rail across the West Midlands.

It will be the biggest cash injection into the network since Victorian times and is aimed at reducing costs and meeting the increasing demand of passengers.
