Goss is pleased with Spa’s point

DROITWICH Spa boss Tom Goss praised his side’s performance in Saturday’s 1-1 Midland Combination Division One draw at Chelmsley Town before setting his sights on tomorrow’s local derby at home against Fairfield Villa.

The point cemented a healthy return against Chelmsley with Droitwich having already beaten them once this season but Spa are still in trouble at the wrong end of the table, sitting two places off the bottom.

“I was pleased the point, especially as we were away from home,” Goss said.

“There is no doubting that Chelmsley were the better side in the first half but we had much the better of the second half and were well worth a point by the final whistle.”

Chelmsley looked the more likely scorers in the first half and after forcing three excellent saves out of Spa keeper Simon Williams they finally took the lead just before half time.

An improved Droitwich display in the second half saw them press hard for an equaliser and their efforts were rewarded with ten minutes left when Matt Colley headed home from a corner.

“We fought back well from the position we found ourselves in at half time but it is important we don’t put ourselves in that position too often,” Goss added.

“There were times in the first half where I thought we looked a little bit nervous but we spoke about where we could put things right at half time and with the help of the substitutes having a big impact we got ourselves going.”

Fairfield ran out 3-0 winners when the two teams met at the Recreation Ground at the end of October but Goss is looking forward to seeing his side compete much better than they did that day.

“As I’ve said before I didn’t give us enough chance of getting a result that day so first and foremost I’m looking forward to giving them a proper game,” Goss said.

“They are doing really well and are in a good run of form which they will want to continue, but we also want to get a result and will be giving it our all in order to try and do so.”
