THE WOMEN of Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club overcame the mud and hills of Newbold Comyn in Leamington to make a good start in the first Midlands Women's Cross Country League race.
Out of a huge field of 280 runners with 38 clubs and teams represented, this event is one of the biggest the club faces.
The first three scorers - Sally Hogan, Katy Anderson and Tamara Ball - took the A team to a very respectable tenth place, whilst the veteran runners also took tenth in the team event.
The race was won by Coventry's Frances Briscoe in 12min, 04, with Hogan coming in first for B&R in 28th in 28min, 10.
She was followed in by Katy Anderson (36th, 28.35), Tamara Ball (54th, 29.42), Mel Hepke (96th, 31.54), Charlotte Ball (111th, 32.44), Ann Stuart (160th, 35.22) and Jane Anderson (185th, 37.29).
THE FOLLOWING day the club's juniors travelled to Wolverhampton to take part in the West Midlands Young Athletes League second fixture.
In the U17 men's race 60 competitors took part with Calum Smith finishing first for the club in 17th, 17.44. He was followed by James Downing, 35th, 19.00, and Lewis Anderson 60th, 22.37.
The U15 boys saw 82 competitors take part. Ben O'Connor was first for the club in 47th place in 13.06, followed by Andrew Pearson 64th, 13.55, Conor Lewis 69th, 14.11, and Kieran Henry in 82nd, 16.20.
The U13 boys competition saw the highest placing of the day for the club with Altay Gardiner finishing in 14th position in 9.47.
Next was Cameron Cooper in 24th, 10.11, Joshua Pearson, 32nd, 10.24, Max Battle 46th, 10.47 and Elliot Omahony 68th, 11.32, as 86 ran in this field.
Two B&R boys ran in the U11s amongst a field of 98 competitors, with Felix Gill coming 27th in 6.51 and Trenten Roberts 67th in 7.45.
Forty-four competitors took part in the U17 women's competition in which B&R were represented by Anna Ball who finished 20th in 18.18.
In the U15 girls competition 135 competitors took part and Imogen Freeman finished 17th in 13.30. Then came Amelia Tompkin 53rd, 15.28, Ruth Gameson 60th, 15.58 and Lillie Murphy 70th, 16.43.
The U13 girls race saw 139 competitors and the B&R athletes finished as follows: Olivia Worth 28th, 10.47, Megan Nicod 35th, 10.54, Amy Mijovic-Couldwell 36th, 10.55, Gabriella Padmore 58th, 11.18, Amy Tongue 64th, 11.23, Ellen Bowen 84th, 11.50, Eva James 101st, 12.15, Alice Battey 111th, 12.27, Jessica Lane 121st, 12.56, Mollie Quinney 136th, 14.34.
In the largest field of the day, 160 U11 girls set off with B&R represented by Beth Lloyd 24th 6.47, Kitty Luscombe 33rd, 6.47, Nicol Green 39th, 6.47, Anna Nicod 62nd, 6.47, Buffy Pinnegar 113th, 8.10, and Ellie Green 143rd.
