DROITWICH Spa boss Tom Goss has told his players if they continue to perform to the levels of recent weeks that results will start to come.
Spa suffered a 1-0 Midland Combination Division One home defeat against Shirley Town on Saturday to leave them 17th in the table but Goss firmly believes they are not far away from starting to collect the points that will see them start to climb the table.
“It is a very frustrating time for us at the minute because the players are giving everything but just not getting the results they deserve,” he said.
“Apart from last week at Fairfield where I got things wrong, we are in a very good run of performances and I feel for the players that it hasn’t brought them more.”
Shirley secured all three points thanks to a goal direct from an 83rd minute free kick but even after that Droitwich continued to press and had chances to equalise.
“It was a good game, played by two good sides,” Goss said.
“I would say they shaded the first half but we dominated the second half and the response of the players after falling behind so late was one of the most pleasing things of the day. I don’t know how we didn’t equalise to be honest but it wasn’t to be.
“Credit to Shirley for standing up to our pressure but I can’t say enough about the attitude of my players and I hope they continue to show it in the coming weeks.
“We are a different side now to the one from the early weeks of the season, you can visibly see the players growing in stature.”
Spa travel to Chelmsley Town tomorrow, who they beat 2-1 earlier in the season, and with both sides having won just once so far this season, it will be a big afternoon for both.
“The table suggests it is a chance for us to get a positive result, but they will be thinking exactly the same thing,” Goss said.
“I would imagine they feel slightly hard done by to have lost the game between us earlier in the season so will probably be after revenge but I’m hopeful if we keep doing what we have been the result will go our way.”
Spa will still be without Andy Keenahan and Aaron Austin but hope to have Liam Jaunty available for selection again.
