Preston Grasshoppers 29 Bromsgrove 26
National Two North
THERE was yet more agony for Bromsgrove on Saturday as they suffered last gasp heartache, again.
It was a depleted Town side that travelled to Preston to face one of the league's most in-form sides but with seconds remaining a magnificent victory appeared on the cards.
That was until a missed tackle allowed Hughes to sprint clear for a try under the posts that Taylor converted with the last kick of the game to give Preston victory.
It was only a magnificent second half fightback that gave Bromsgrove any hope of success as they trailed 22-3 at the break and things looked ominous.
There was a miraculous turnaround in the second half though as whatever coaches Ross Baxter and Duncan Roke said at half time, seemed to have the desired effect.
Kevin Salisbury crashed over almost immediately for a try near the posts that was converted by fly half Richard Mahoney and the score clearly installed some belief in the visitors.
With Bromsgrove harrying and suddenly taking the game to their hosts, cracks began to appear in Preston's armour and the assurance they had shown in the first half quickly disappeared.
Aaron Higgins was the next to cross and Maloney added the extras again before sending three penalties through the uprights to edge Bromsgrove ahead.
There was to be late despair again though, sentencing Bromsgrove to an eighth league defeat of the season which sees them sitting 14th in the table ahead of tomorrow's home clash with Westoe.
