Scheme launched to help Bromsgrove's rough sleepers

A NEW service has been launched to help rough sleepers get off the streets during winter.

From today (Tuesday), residents can call StreetLink to report homeless people who they are concerned about.

The person who contacts StreetLink will then receive details of the action Bromsgrove District Council will take to ensure support is provided.

The organisation will also contact the council within 15 days to find out what action has been taken and, if requested, provide an update to the person who reported the rough sleeper.

Coun Del Booth, responsible for strategic housing at Bromsgrove District Council, welcomed the launch of the scheme and said it was especially crucial at this time of year, when it was so cold outside.

“Thanks to the hard work of our housing team in pro-actively managing homelessness, there are very low instances of rough sleeping in the district.

“We would encourage residents to use StreetLink so the council can take the necessary steps to connect people sleeping rough with available services.”

To report a rough sleeper, call 0300 500 0914 or visit www.streetlink.org.uk.
