Plenty more Christmas activities across Bromsgrove

THERE are plenty of festive fayres and other Christmassy activities taking place across Bromsgrove District in the next few days, here is what you could be doing:

YOUNGSTERS can search for Santa at Avoncroft Museum tomorrow (Saturday), Sunday (December 16) and next Saturday (December 22).

The man in the big red suit will be in one of the museum's historic buildings and it is up to the children, with the help of costumed visitors and festive clues, to track him down.

Those who do so will get a surprise gift and be able to personally hand him their Christmas list.

Tickets are £10 for adults, £7 for children and £4 for members.

Admission includes gifts for youngsters and mulled wine and mince pies for adults.

THOSE wanting some seasonal song can go along to Christmas Carols and Readings at Avoncroft Museum's Bringsty Chapel at 2.30pm next Sunday (December 23).

A 'DESIGN an original humorous Christmas Card' competition will be held as part of Bromsgrove Art Society's latest meeting, which takes place at 7.30pm on Tuesday (December 18).

The festive get together will feature a presentation by Graham Wilson who creates humorous cartoons. He will also be on hand to judge the card contest.

The event, at St John Ambulance Centre, Barnsley Hall Drive, Bromsgrove, will also include seasonal snacks and drinks to get those who go along into a Christmassy mood.

ON WEDNESDAY (December 19), there is the pantomime A Christmas Carol at Bromsgrove Baptist Church at 7pm.

THERE will be plenty of special seasonal screenings at Artrix’s cinema this Christmas.

Frankenweenie (PG) will be shown next Friday (December 21) and there will be Madagascar 3 (also PG) on January 2.

Those screenings are designed to ensure disabled people and those with special needs can enjoy a film with their carers, family and friends in a relaxed setting.

The venue is partially flat-floored to provide extra space for wheelchairs and the lights are kept low so viewers can come and go as they choose.

RESIDENTS wanting to dedicate a light to a loved one on one of this year's Primrose Hospice Lights of Love trees have until Monday (December 16) to take part.

The Bromsgrove tree is in the High Street, with a book of remembrance at the Methodist Church, and the Rubery one is in New Road, with the book of remembrance in the Primrose shop opposite.

So far, more than £16,000 has been raised and it is hoped the coffers will be boosted by this final weekend of the campaign.

THE VENUE of a fund-raising choir’s Christmas concert has been changed.

Primrose Choir will now be performing at the Spadesbourne Suite in Bromsgrove instead of the Rocklands Social Club in Redditch with special guests Astwood Bank First School.

THERE will be classic Christmas carols aplenty at the Spadesbourne Suite, Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove, on Wednesday.

The Community Carol Service, organised by Bromsgrove District Council and Churches Together in Bromsgrove, starts at 6.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to the event, which includes complimentary drinks and mince pies.

THE BRASS Time Quintet and Pam Rhodes, the familiar face of BBC’s Songs of Praise, will perform a traditional Christmas celebration of words, music and songs at Lickey Church, Rose Hill, at 7.30pm on Friday (December 14).

Pam, who will be revealing her encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Christmas to complement the programme of seasonal song, described the event as ‘a Christmassy, join-in-and-sing, musical feast of an evening’.

Tickets are £12.50 (£10 concessions), and £5 for children.

CHRISTMAS Storytime and colouring sessions for three to five-year-olds will take place at two libraries in Bromsgrove District on Saturday (December 15).

The first event takes place at Rubery Library from 11am to 11.45am and the second is at Catshill Library between 3pm and 3.30pm.

Parents need to remain on site during the sessions, which can be booked by calling 01905 822722 to book a place.

THOSE wanting to get out in the great outdoors this Christmas can pay the Clent Hills a visit.

There will also be a winter wonderland walks next Sunday (December 23), wjhich will take in local landmarks, wildlife and places of interest.

VISITORS to Hanbury Hall can see the venue decorated for a traditional Victorian Christmas and youngsters who go along at weekends will be able to visit Santa in his grotto in the Long Gallery.

The man in the big red suit will be there between 11am and 4pm tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday (December 16)

Visits to Father Christmas will incur a small additional charge and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

Festive food, including roast turkey lunches, turkey baguettes, Christmas pudding, mulled wine, freshly baked mince pies and more, will also be available at the venue.

For those wanting a seasonal singalong can go along to one of Hanbury Hall's popular traditional carol concerts.

They will be talking place in the main hall at 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday (December 13, 14 and 15).

Doors open at 7pm and tickets, which include mulled wine and a mince pie, are £14.

DRAMA for children and their families is on offer in Bromsgrove over the Christmas holidays.

The Sideways Theatre Company brings its production of The Snow Queen to Artrix on Friday, December 28, at 2.30pm, with an extra show at 5.30pm due to demand for tickets.

Audiences will join brave heroine Gerda on her adventure to rescue Kai from the frosty grip of the Snow Queen. She will need all her strength and wits about her as she tackles the mysterious and comical creatures of the frozen North.
