Campaigner upset by road safety team's abusive e-mail

A ROAD safety campaigner battling to get speed restrictions put on a busy Stoke Prior road was left angered and upset after receiving an e-mail from West Mecia Safer Roads Team containing abusive language.

Martin Moss had contacted the organisation about the speeding in Shaw Lane and received the message containing the expletive from Steve Wood, the operations manager at the safer roads team.

Mr Moss, who said he had sent a number of e-mails that day, was left shocked when he opened his inbox to find a message from Mr Wood which read: 'Really p****d off now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

He told The Standard: "I could not believe it - I have always been polite and courteous throughout the campaign."

He added he e-mailed Mr Wood back to tell him he thought it was disgraceful and claimed he had not yet received an apology.

"My son and a lot of other children cross that road everyday on their way to getting the bus or coming home from school and I worry about his and their safety.

"I have been campaigning for two years now and I just want to get something done.

"But, it feels like I'm hitting a brick wall and no one wants to listen.

"I have been told that they are looking into speeding in Stoke Prior, but that doesn't seem to cover the south side of the village, where there is a lot of motorway traffic and heavy lorries," added Mr Moss.

A spokesperson for the West Mercia Safer Roads Partnership said: "The manager of the Safer Roads Partnership is aware of the incident and has made efforts to contact Mr Moss without success.

"The matter is being treated seriously as a misconduct issue."

On the road safety issues, the spokesperson added: "The partnership has recently begun a structured programme of Community Concern speed enforcement in Stoke Prior, which includes that part of the village."
