BOSSES and volunteers from Avoncroft Museum will be watching Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger with extra interest after the venue's 18th Century wagon shed was made into a stable and used as a backdrop for key scenes in the festive Brit flick.

Nativity 2, featuring David Tennant, Joanna Page, Jessica Hynes, and Pam Ferris, is the sequel to Nativity! which became a huge hit in 2009. In this film, the pupils from St Bernadette's head to Wales to compete in the national 'A Song for Christmas' contest.

Cast and crew spent a day filming at Avoncroft and the museum's director Simon Carter said everyone, including stunt donkey Archie, had a great time.

"We really enjoyed having the Nativity 2 team on site and it was exciting to welcome such famous actors to the museum.

“Both David Tennant and Marc Wootton visited our Edwardian tea room and feedback from the crew was overwhelmingly positive,” he added.

It is not the first time Avoncroft has been used for TV and film - it has featured on Come Dine With Me and will be in Antiques Road Trip in the new year.

It has also provided the set for a new BBC period drama, which will be aired in 2013, and will be featured in a documentary on the Turin Shroud.

“Avoncroft is a unique venue. The style and range of buildings we have on site enables us to cater for lots of different filming requirements and because we’re an open air site, there’s plenty of room for all the equipment that accompanies actors and their entourages,” added Mr Carter.
