MP backs Hagley residents in homes plight

BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has has declared his opposition to a controversial housing development in Hagley.

Mr Javid has issued an open letter in support of thousands of residents who have protested on the streets to fight against Cala Homes' proposal to build 175 homes at Kidderminster Road.

The plans also include 700 square-metres of office space on the land - currently owned by Lord Cobham.

In the letter Mr Javid said: "The strength of local feeling on this issue has been made very clear to me.

"I do not support this proposed development.

"The scale of the proposal raises many questions, such as the impact on local infrastructure and services, the resultant noise and pollution, and the effect on local wildlife.

"I agree with many of my constituents that this development would alter the character of the village.

"Residents are understandably perturbed by this possibility."

Mr Javid said he had expressed the views of Hagley residents to officials at Bromsgrove District Council as well as held meetings with council chief executive Kevin Dicks on the issue.

"I know how important this matter is to everyone living in Hagley, and I will continue to do all that I can to represent local views on this issue" he added.

In October The Standard reported on a statement released by Cala Homes in which regional director Darren Humphreys moved to allay residents fears.

He said they were not getting the 'full picture' and argued the development would bring benefits to the area.

The application is expected to be determined at the district council's next planning committee a week on Monday (December 3).
