SATURDAY'S Christmas lights switch-on in Bromsgrove also sees the launch of the Primrose Hospice’s annual Lights of Love campaign.

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the poignant fund-raiser, which enables residents to remember a loved one, by dedicating a light on the Lights of Love tree, in return for a donation to the charity.

The Primrose offers a range of clinical and support services to those living with cancer and other life-threatening illness in Bromsgrove and surrounding areas.

The highly popular appeal, which is aimed at being both an act of remembrance and a celebration of life, raised more than £20,000 last year and it is hoped this year will generate a similar response.

The Lights of Love tree, which will be at the top end of the High Street, by Argos, will have the names of the loved ones displayed at the base. They will also be in a book of remembrance at the Methodist Church.

There will be a Lights of Love Memorial Service at Bromsgrove Methodist Church at 4pm, for those who wish to light a candle in memory of a loved one.

Lyn Winters, the Primrose Hospice’s fund-raising manager, said: “For most people, Christmas is a happy time, but for many it is a time for reflection and sadness.

“We appreciate the generous nature of local people for thinking of Primrose Hospice, as well as their loved ones at this special time, when we think about those who have played an important part in our lives and are no longer with us.

“The Lights of Love is a poignant reminder in which we can all share.”

Next Saturday (November 24) Rubery’s Lights of Love will be illuminated as part of the village’s annual Christmas lights switch-on.
