More than 50 roads in Bromsgrove and Droitwich improved

THE SURFACES of more than 50 roads across Bromsgrove and Droitwich have been improved as part of a £3.8million scheme undertaken by Worcestershire County Council.

Roads in Bromsgrove have included Burcot Lane, Whitford Road, Marlbrook Lane and Wildmoor Lane. The north and southbound carriageways of the Rubery Bypass, Barnt Green Road in Cofton Hackett and the Alvechurch Highway in Lickey and Blackwell have also all been improved.

Among those in Droitwich, have been Ombersley Road, Tagwell Road and Farmers Way.

The work, which saw 1.78million square metres of highway improved, took place between April and September and saw a coat of bitumen sprayed onto surfaces, followed by one or more layers of stone chippings.

Worcestershire County Council claims the method is ten times cheaper than others, that it helps make deteriorating roads more waterproof and is carried out quicker, meaning less delays to traffic.

Coun John Smith OBE, the county council cabinet member responsible for highways and transport, said: "This is the biggest project of this type we've ever undertaken and things have gone well.

"More importantly, motorists are now driving on more than 350 roads across Worcestershire that are in a much better condition.

"This £3.8million investments means these highways are now in the best condition to stand up to what winter has in store."

He added it enabled road surfaces could be improvd before they deteriorated to a condition where the work would be more costly.

"It's the best solution that offers the greatest value for money for the taxpayer," said Coun Smith.
