A DRAMATIC rescue took place at Frankley Waterworks yesterday (Monday), when a cherry-picker overturned, injuring two builders who were working on it.
The pair were creating a very large water tank and were just about to pour the concrete in when the incident happened at around 8.25am. One, in his 40s, was treated for a head injury and the other, who was in his 50s, suffered leg and back pain.
Because of where he was, the ambulance service had to use a crane on the site to lift him out.
It was done using a specialist stretcher to immobilise him and he was accompanied by a member of the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) which had been sent to the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "This patient and one of the HART paramedics were lifted over 75 feet into the air from the location and then transported to the waiting ambulance by the crane on site."
Both men were then taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
