Juniors begin new league season

THE JUNIOR members of Bromsgrove & Redditch Athletic Club travelled to Hatton to take part in their first race of the season - the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League - hosted by Leamington Spa.

A lot of the course was away from the main spectator area, so true grit and individual determination was very much in order.

Age categories cover two school years and many athletes who were competing as older competitors last season found themselves competing this year at the younger end of the age range.

Although the sun was shining the course was incredibly muddy from recent rain, which caused a few athletes to fall, but then cross country is not meant to be easy.

Although overall team results have not been released, it was the U11 girls (seventh) who placed the highest of the B&R teams out of the age category team scoring.

B&R results (position, time, name): U11 girls (138 finishers) 27 07:41 Beth Lloyd; 28 07:41 Kitty Luscombe; 34 07:46 Nicol Green; 47 07:57 Flora Skinner; 83 08:23 Sophie Payne; 94 08:35 Buffy Pinnegar; 127 09:42 Laura Timperley; 135 10:06 Hattie Gore.
