Bromsgrove stores to open on Sundays in bid to boost trade

MORE THAN 30 stores in Bromsgrove will open their doors this Sunday (November 4) and on Sundays throughout November and December in a bid to boost trade in the run up to Christmas.

It follows a survey conducted by Jan Coulson, who runs www.bromsgrovetown.com, which revealed many town centre businesses would be prepared to open on Sundays if others followed suit.

He said: "Many of the shops, particularly the chains, had tried opening on Sunday, but because it was only one or two shops at a time, it hasn't really worked."

And he said, hopefully, as it was more en masse this time around, more people would be encouraged to shop in the town centre.

Mr Coulson said: "A lot of the shops are struggling at the moment, so any extra trade they can get out of their fixed costs would be welcomed - especially in the run up to Christmas."

He added even more stores would be opening their doors throughout December and there would be a further boost in the last two weekends before Christmas - on December 15 and 16 and 22 and 23 - when Bromsgrove District Council offered free parking in the town centre car parks.

Among the stores opening on Sundays, will be Store Twenty One, Argos, Sweetz, Sports Direct, Midland Waterlife, M&Co, Mothercare, Blunts shoes and Bodycare.
