A MAN broke into a Bromsgrove property yesterday afternoon (Thursday) after going through the back garden and smashing a conservatory door.

He was chased by a local resident after the incident, which happened at around 12.30pm.

But he managed to escape before officers arrived and, despite the use of the West Mercia Police helicopter and police dogs, he could not be found.

The man, who ran from the scene, was white with a pale complexion, 6ft tall and in his 20s. He was wearing a dark green trilby hat, a green tweed jacket, black skinny jeans and black plimsols. He was carrying a green shoulder satchel.

It is believed jewellery was stolen but officers are still trying to establish the details.

Det Con Jim Guinivan of West Mercia Police said: "As the man was very distinctively dressed, we hope someone may have seen him or recognise the description."

Anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information should call Bromsgrove CID on 0300 333 3000.
