BROMSGROVE & REDDITCH Athletic Club athletes were among the variety of different clubs who entered the Telford Games.
Lewis Byng, in the under 11 boys category, who has had an incredible track and field season, did not disappoint.
He not only won the 60m final with a PB of 8.7secs, but also won the 150m in 21.9secs (beating 2nd place by almost 1 second) and made it a hat-trick of victories as he placed first in the long jump with a leap of 3.98m.
In the U11 girls 60m sprint final Beth Lloyd placed 2nd with a PB 9.2secs, followed by another 2nd place in the 600m with another PB of 1:55.6.
The U13 girls category saw Eve James finish 5th in her 70m hurdles heat in 18.7s and achieve 6th place in the high jump with 1.25m. In the U13 girls javelin Amy Mijovic-Couldwell came 5th with 11.41m.
The U15 boys event saw Danny Nichols take 8th in the final of the 100m with a PB of 12.4s, as well as taking 2nd in the 200m heat 3 in 24.9s ahead of Oliver Kemp who finished 6th with 27.1s. Kemp came 7th in the 100m, just missing out on a slot in the final.
In the shot putt Kemp came 5th with 8.99m and in the javelin he took 2nd with a PB of 34.39m.
There was a lot of activity for the club in the U15 girls category. In the 100m Ashleigh Beaven finished 7th with 13.6 secs after running a PB of 13.5secs in her heat earlier in the day.
In the 100m heat 2 Rebekah Miller finished 5th in 13.7secs and the 200m final saw Miller achieve 2nd place with 27.8secs after winning her heat in 27.3s.
Field event placings were as follows: Long jump Ashleigh Beaven - 5th place with 4.34m; triple jump Candy Lockett - 1st place with 8.84m; shot putt Candy Lockett - 3rd place with a PB of 8.24m; discus Candy Lockett - 2nd place with 20.17m; javelin Candy Lockett - 4th place with 16.88m; javelin Ashleigh Beaven - 6th place with 13.37m.
It was all about the field events for the sole under 17 women competitor, Geordan Edmonds. In the high jump she finished 2nd with a PB of 1.45m and then took 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 4.81m, jumped 10.13 in the triple jump to claim 3rd and finally came 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 26.9m.
The U20 women were represented by Izzy Billau and Romy Naven. Izzy won the final of the 100m in 12.6s (PB), just ahead of Romy who took 2nd in 13.1s. Romy won the 200m in 27secs and Izzy went on to win the triple jump with a jump of 10.90m and placed 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 29.93.
In the senior men’s competition Russell Hingley took 5th with a season’s best of 11.7s in the 100m and David Mould won the 400m in 50.2s - a whole second ahead of the second placed athlete.
In the men’s over 35 category Peter Mould won the 200m in 25.7secs.
THE UK Javelin Association 3rd Annual Javelin Carnival was held at Bedford International Stadium on September 8/9 and saw Sam Lloyd take 8th place with a throw of 37.43m in the under 23 women’s competition.
THE VETERANS Inter Area Match was held on September 9 at Solihull and B&R athlete Julie Wakelam represented the Midland Masters in the following events with some good results: Discus - 2nd with 22.89m; javelin - 3rd with 20.19m; shot putt - 4th with a PB of 7.05m.
In the Hereford Hammer competition on Sunday B&R under 15 athlete Candy Lockett finished 2nd in her category with a throw of 28.95m.
