FORMER Welsh rugby star Scott Quinnell will be the guest speaker at a fund-raising evening in aid of the campaign to build Bromsgrove a new war memorial.
The 40-year-old will talk about his life and career during the event at Bromsgrove Rugby Club next Friday (September 14).
The evening, which will also include a meal and a comedian, is not black tie.
It has been organised by Paul Fidoe, who works for the wealth and investment management division of Barclays which has agreed to match any proceeds raised on the night.
Ian Riley, from The Bromsgrove Armed Forces Memorial Fund (BAFMF), said: “This will be a fabulous night for anyone who is a fan of rugby,
“We are very grateful that Paul has organised this evening on our behalf.”
Tickets for the evening cost £60 each or £600 for a table of ten.
Anyone wanting to find out more can call Ian Riley on 07703 466477 or e-mail him at ian@merciaframing.co.uk
The BAFMF campaign was launched 12 months ago in a bid to raise £50,000 to build a new stone on land at Crown Green that has been provided by Bromsgrove District Council.
The new memorial will honour all those from the town who have served in the armed forces in all of the conflicts over the years.
The original target amount for the memorial was in the region of £50,000, but because of offers of free material and labour which have been pledged, the campaign organisers say they are half-way to getting the amount they need.
