BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid has been promoted in Prime Minister David Cameron's cabinet reshuffle, which was announced on Tuesday (September 4).

Mr Javid, who was handed the Treasury Minister role of Economic Secretary to the Treasury, told The Standard he was delighted with the promotion.

"I’m honoured to have the opportunity to help the country deal with the economic challenges facing it.

"Without the support of my constituents, I would not have this opportunity.

"My constituents are my number one priority, and hopefully this appointment will help me make their case at the highest levels of Government.

"I will use my experience in financial matters to the fullest extent possible and I will continue to work tirelessly for my constituents as I assume my new responsibilities,” he added.

Mr Javid was elected to Bromsgrove at the 2010 general election, with a majority of more than 11,000.

In October 2011, he was made Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne.
