THE OWNER of a dog which was badly injured trying to protect their Bromsgrove property from being burgled has appealed for the public’s help in bringing the raider to justice.

The elderly woman, who does not want to be named, was out when the incident happened at her home in Hanbury Road, Stoke Prior, between 5.15pm and 7.15pm on Sunday evening (September 2).

Kiri, the eight-year-old collie (pictured), was left with a severe injury to her right eye after what appears to be a brutal attack by the burglar on the dog as it tried to defend the property.

Her owner said: “This has come as a real shock and I am gutted by what has happened to Kiri.

“I can’t believe anyone could be so heartless and cruel to an animal.

“She is my daily companion and all I am concerned about at the moment.

“It has made me very nervous about going out and leaving her alone.

“Kiri appears to be fearful and is following me everywhere about the house as if she needs constant reassurance.

“It’s terrible and I just hope someone can come forward with information to help the police catch whoever did this.”

The injured dog needed veterinary treatment and is now wearing a special ‘lampshade’ collar as a result of her injuries.

Det Con Adrian Smith said it was a vicious attack.

“This was a particularly nasty incident as the dog was left badly injured.

“We are eager to hear from anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in the area on Sunday evening or thinks they know who the burglar is.”

The burglar escaped with cash which was taken from a purse that was in the house at the time.

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call Det Con Smith on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
