A DOG was left badly injured after trying to prevent his owner's Bromsgrove home from being burgled.

The eight-year-old collie sustained the serious eye injuries, which needed veterinary treatment, after being attacked during the incident.

It happened between 5.15pm and 7.15pm on Sunday evening (September 2) in Hanbury Road, Stoke Prior.

The burglar broke into the property and the dog tried to defend it while its owner was out.

But, despite the dog's best efforts, the raider escaped with cash taken from a purse.

Det Con Adrian Smith said: "This was a particularly nasty incident as the dog was left badly injured.

"We are eager to hear from anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in the area on Sunday evening or thinks they know who the burglar is."

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call Det Con Smith on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
