Bromsgrove Sporting 4 Lichfield City 1
Midland Combination Premier Division
TWO goals from man of the match Chris Conway helped Sporting bounce back from their midweek defeat with a comprehensive victory over Lichfield City on Saturday.
Conway will have been disappointed not to walk off with the match ball having missed three times when clean through, the first time as early as the 11th minute.
Sporting thought they had taken the lead in the 17th minute when the ball hit the back of the net but to the bemusement of the crowd and players, it was disallowed for a push.
They were celebrating again two minutes later though when Lichfield defender Worrall could only head the ball towards his own goal from Brookes' free kick and Conway was on hand to apply the finishing touch.
Conway saw another strike disallowed four minutes later but Sporting were given a golden chance to double their lead in the 33rd minute when awarded a penalty for handball but Joe Brookes' effort was too close to the keeper who parried the ball to safety.
Still Sporting poured forward in search of the second goal but they were to remain frustrated as Conway broke clear in the 36th minute and chipped the keeper but it just cleared the bar to leave it 1-0 at the break.
Nerves were settled 12 minutes into the second half when Conway drilled home a second from 20-yards and with the comfort of a 2-0 lead, Sporting started to play some impressive football.
Two became three in the 70th minute when James Blake found space to cut in on the left edge of the area and beat Johnson low down at his near post before Jon Rogers scored Sporting's final goal when put through one-on-one with 15 minutes left.
Lichfield completed the scoring for the afternoon through Bennett but their afternoon was to end on a sour note when Todd Perry received his second yellow card of the afternoon with eight minutes remaining.
