Woman sexually assaulted in Rubery charity shop

A WOMAN was sexually assaulted in a Rubery charity shop on Saturday (August 18).

The attack was carried out at Barnardo's, New Road, at 4.45pm by a man who entered the store, holding a notice that said he was deaf and asked for a donation.

The woman indicated she had no money and then, after putting the sign away, the man went over to her and put his arms around her.

She pushed him away and he sexually assaulted her.

The man was white, in his late 30s, around 5ft 4ins tall, with a broad chest and short, dark hair. He wore a navy blue baseball cap, light tracksuit trousers, a pale blue T-shirt and a navy shoulder bag.

Witnesses said he a tanned complexion.

PC John Coleman from Rubery Police said the man visited other shops in the village that day and it was possible he was part of a group going from store to store, begging for money.

He urged anyone with any information to call him on 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"I would like to reassure people that this appears to be an isolated incident at this time and we have received no further reports of this man carrying out any similar offences in the area so far," added PC Coleman.
