BOSSES at Bromsgrove’s Bird’s Brewery are celebrating after winning the regional heats of Sainsbury’s Great British Beer Hunt competition.
And now the Old Burcot Lane-based brewer’s Amnesia ale is being stocked at Sainsbury’s in Redditch and across Birmingham, including the one at Northfield and the store at the Maypole.
Bottled beers from across the Midlands were judged, both on taste and appearance, at a special event at Warwickshire Cricket Club’s Edgbaston ground and Bird’s 4.5 per cent pale straw ale was chosen.
This week, to celebrate the achievement, Bird’s IT manager Karl Knibbs and finance director Steve Hammond went along to Sainsbury’s in Redditch to launch the beer there.
Steve said: “We have only been up and running three years and were very pleased to have been chosen by Sainsbury’s.
“It’s fantastic to be associated with such a nationally-recognised name - it gives us a certain kudos.”
He added the brewery was planning to enter Sainsbury’s national competition next year in a bid to get its brewery stocked in the chain’s supermarkets nationwide.
And he said a Bird’s Brewery shop would be opening in the coming weeks.
