DROITWICH Spa boss Tom Goss begins his second spell in charge of the club tomorrow with a Midland Combination Division One home clash against newly promoted Aston.
Spa found life tough at times last season and will be hoping for an improved campaign this time around, starting against an Aston side who have won two successive promotions and are fancied to go well again.
“Aston are an excellent side and I’m sure they will be ready for what Division One has to throw at them, but we’ll only worry about ourselves and make sure we go about our business in the right way,” Goss said.
“I’ve been really pleased with the effort and dedication of the lads in pre-season and the work we have done as a club.
“We were slightly behind when I took the job on but we have done a lot of learning and catching up and we are ready.”
Spa overcame Broadway and lost against Bromyard and Malvern Town in pre-season friendlies but Goss said he was pleased with some of the football his players produced.
“We’ve got players of a very good standard and they have produced some good football so far,” he said.
“I’m excited by the youngsters coming through, some of whom played last season, and it is important they learn lessons from last season.
“It will be a tough division again but we will try to improve on last season and I’m looking forward to the challenge.
“It is a full on start with so many games in August and plenty at home, but hopefully we’ll get plenty of support from the local public as that is important to us.”
