Hi: 20° Lo:8° 7 day

BROMSGROVE Hockey Club are set to build on the 2012 Olympic Success of Team GB.
Following on from the fantastic bronze medal won by Team GB’s ladies and the fourth place of the men, Bromsgrove are all set to meet the post Olympic surge in interest for the sport, as Bromsgrove Coach and last season’s England Hockey Club Coach of the Year Alan Gormley explained.
“England Hockey has been very proactive in helping clubs to prepare for the post Olympic interest in our sport.
“We have lots of different opportunities for everyone in the family to take part whether they have played before or not.
“The month of September is going to see unprecedented levels of hockey in and around Bromsgrove to satisfy the demand for the game.”
The club have two programmes for adults (age 14 plus) who want to start playing the game again or who want to take up the game for the first time. Both programmes start on Tuesday, September 18 at Bromsgrove School. The Men’s Give Hockey A Shot between 7 and 8pm and the Ladies nationally acclaimed Back To Hockey programme between 8 and 9pm.
The hugely successful Junior Hockey Academy reopens on September 9 at Bromsgrove School between 9.30am and 11am and newcomers get their first session for free.
The club’s newest initiative, ‘RUSH’ hockey will be held at Parkside School from September 5 between 8-9pm. Rush is like 5-a-side football, fast, furious and great fun.
And on top of all that the club has regular hockey teams who are always looking for new members.
The Men restart training at Bromsgrove School on September 4 between 8pm and 9pm and the Ladies on September 6 between 8pm and 9pm.
September will also see a new ‘Give Hockey A Go In Schools’ project that will offer coaching and competitive inter-school games to local schools whilst on September 1 (12pm to 3pm), at Trinity High School, Redditch, the club are holding a very special Hockey Club Open Day in memory of Patrick Ebbutt, a young player who sadly lost his battle against a brain tumour last season. All proceeds will go to Brain Tumour Research and St Mary’s Hospice.
