Boars are set for action

PREPARATIONS are now well underway for Bromsgrove RFC’s second season in National Two North as they look to build on last season’s impressive seventh placed finish.

The Boars finished with the best home record in the division and were the top bonus point scorers, as well as finishing in the top four for points scored and points difference.

A target of a top six finish has been set for the new campaign with the aim of winning every home game and finishing as top dogs in the feast of local derbies that will take place.

“The club is very excited by the prospect of building on last season and hosting a record number of local derby matches against Luctonians, Stourbridge, Dudley Kingswinford and Birmingham Solihull,” said Chairman of Rugby Alan Danks.

“The club pulled out all the stops last year to have one of the top three average attendances in the league and finished on a high with over 1200 people attending the Westoe match. The Finstall Park matchday experience is a wonderful day out and has undoubtedly contributed to the team’s performances on the park.”

Before the league season kicks off at Hull on September 1, the Boars face a tough pre-season match at National Two South outfit Henley Hawks tomorrow.

“We are taking a squad of around 28 players and are looking forward to seeing how we perform both in terms of our physical conditioning and the new shape we have put on the game plan,” said backs coach Duncan Roke who previously played for Henley Hawks.

“We have retained the majority of last year’s squad and been able to add to the depth and quality of that squad with local players hungry to develop their game and play an exciting brand of rugby.”
