A BROMSGROVE cyclist who was injured in a crash in Droitwich on Friday (August 10) has died in hospital.

The incident, involving the 18-year-old who was on his BMX and a blue Kia Picanto, happened on the A38, outside the Chateau Impney Hotel, at around 3.25pm.

It is believed that while the man was cycling on the pavement, away from Droitwich, the car appeared to mount the path before colliding with the teenager.

The rider received medical attention at the scene and was then airlifted to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but he died the following day.

PC Leon Westwood, from West Mercia Police, who is investigating the incident, said: "Our thoughts are with this young man's family and friends at this sad time."

He appealed for any witnesses or anyone who saw the bike or Picanto in the moments before the collision to call him on 0300 333 3000.

A police spokesperson confirmed a woman in her 50s from Tenbury Wells was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the incident. She has since been released on police bail while officers continue their inquiries.

An inquest into his death will be opened in due course.
