BROMSGROVIANS came together in Sanders Park last Friday for an evening of celebration to mark the start of London 2012.
Town MP Sajid Javid was among those in attendance as residents watched Danny Boyle’s spectacular opening ceremony on a big screen in the park.
Revellers also enjoyed performances from dance and sports clubs as well as a range of different activities on offer.
Mr Javid said: “The 2012 Olympics are something that the whole nation can be proud of, and I was delighted to see so many of my constituents celebrating this monumental occasion.
“London 2012 is a great opportunity to bring people in local communities closer together, and this event was the perfect example,” he added.
Organist Tony Roberts provided a range of music for performers to take to an outdoor dance floor where they got to show their talents doing the waltz, foxtrot and quickstep routines.
Many who were in attendance watched on impressed and a number of residents took to our Facebook page to give their verdict.
Sarah Pitt said the event was ‘great’ and Artrix Arts Centre which provided performers of its own described it as a ‘fantastic night’.
Nicola De Sousa added: “We had a lovely time. It would be great to have more opportunities like this in the park.”
