Hi: 9° Lo:3° 7 day

FOLLOWING the previous weeks impressive victory at Redditch, Droitwich Spa produced their worst performance of the season and slumped to a four wicket Worcester League Division One defeat against Coombs Wood at St Peters Fields.
Stand-in skipper Mike Rogers won the toss and chose the attacking option to bat first in good batting conditions.
Stuart Bryan fell early for a breezy 24 and, against some steady seam bowling, Jake Young and Jerome Connor took the score to 84, before Connor was caught for 30.
Young quickly followed for a hard fought 20 and Spa had to rebuild their innings, but wickets fell regularly as batsmen continued to get in and out.
It was left to David Lane to guide the home side to 188 for 7 with a fluent 33 not out, but it appeared Spa were 40 runs short of a par score.
Coombs Wood started their innings in aggressive fashion, but slipped to 61 for 3 and the game was evenly poised.
S Perazza then started to find the boundary regularly as Spa’s bowlers struggled to apply pressure.
After Perazza fell for 42, captain M Langford continued to ensure the visitors were always ahead of the run rate and a flurry of dropped catches handed the game to Coombs Wood.
Langford finished with 38 not out as the winning runs came with three overs to spare.
Jake Young and Adam Crowle were the pick of the Spa attack with two wickets apiece.
Droitwich, who have slipped a place to fourth in the table, travel to Colwall this Saturday.
