A WOMAN has died after being stabbed in a taxi in Northfield.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident which occurred at 8am this morning and are hunting a man who fled the scene at the junction linking Hoggs Lane to Dimsdale Road near North Worcestershire Golf Club.

The taxi driver called emergency services who arrived shortly after, however despite the best efforts of paramedics and the doctor on board an air ambulance the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman from West Midlands Ambulance said: "The woman was in traumatic cardiac arrest with multiple stab wounds. Emergency treatment was immediately carried out including specialist advanced life support techniques.

"Nothing could be done to save her."

Police closed off the area as well as Norrington Road, while they conducted forensic tests.

They have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen a man running from the scene to contact them immediately.

Anyone with any information should call the Birmingham Force Criminal Investigation Department on 101.
